I have a nice quiet attic home office where I work most days. The other day I hear the door open and someone starting up the stairs. It was Timmy, coming up unbeknownst to anyone else in the house.
"Daddy, I'm coming up to your Post Office!"

Admiral Boom Frog
I've always had a complex about how my voice sounded on video, etc. This quote from Dahia doesn't help that complex... even if I was talking through the baby monitor.
Dahlia: "Daddy sounds like a combination of Michigan J. Frog and Admiral Boom over the monitor."

Old fashioned trail mix
Talking about food for our camping trip, Honoria mentioned this idea:
"Mommy, we should make trail mix and put chopped twinkies in it! We have not had that for a LONG time!!"
I'm pretty sure she didn't even know what a twinkie was.

Purely Hypothetical
The kids were on a roll asking each other hypothetical questions like, "If you could legally buy a moneymaker for five dollars, would you?"
Then Honoria thought she could get in on the fun too,
"If you saw a store that said "moneymakers," and you went inside, and all they had was tiny airplanes, what would you do?"
WHAT WOULD YOU DO!!!??

Cut! What is this nonsense?
I was watching a movie with the kids and Honoria asked me, "Why do they have music playing? And you can't hear them talk?"
You know, one of those scenes where the sun is shining and everyone is happily rafting down the river... to music... and you can't hear what they are saying, but it looks like they are having fun.
Yeah.

Tough questions from Juila
"Where is the longest noodle in the world?"
"What is the deepest creek in the world?"
I wish I had the answers.

Code Monkey not even real toy
This is one from the archives that I never posted, probably from when Anthony was 4 or 5.
Anth: He said "Code Monkey goes to the front desk".
Me: Yup, he did.
Anth: Why is the song called Code Monkey?
Me: Just to be funny.
Anth: Why is the first name of the song Code?
Me: Just to be funny.
Anth: Why is the last name of the song Monkey?
Me: Just to be funny.
Me: Do you like the song?
Anth: I don't like the name. Code Monkeys are not real.
Me: No, they're not real.
Anth: Code Monkeys aren't even real toys!
Me: Nope, they are just pretend for this song.
Anth: Yeah, they're funny.

Honoria: Do you know what Mickey Mouse does?
Me: No.
Honoria: He runs around... fast.

Julia the literalist
We were at the dinner table last night talking about one of our cats going to the vet the next day. Mindy had called to schedule an appointment and they said they could squeeze her in. Mindy mentioned that phrase "squeeze her in" several times.
Julia, a little later in the conversation, stopped us to get clarification, "Excuse me mommy, where are they going to squeeze Molly?"
It took us a minute to register, but really made us laugh. We tried to explain the situation better to our very literal little girl.

More Cows Please
I was talking to Julia about getting another milk cow for the farm, and she sounded positive about the idea. Honoria on the other hand (who was eavesdropping) was downright excited, "I want another milk cow! A daddy one!"

The Rivalry, Cookies vs Watermelon
Juila said, "I don't know which is better, cookies or watermelon." After a long pause and much deliberation she concluded, "I think it's watermelon."
Game over, cookies.

Cat fight
I noticed a scratch on Honoria the other day and when I asked her what happened she said, "It was either a cat or a boy."

Straw Philosophy
Julia says, "The thing I like about straws is they don't let me get a mess on my face."
Daddy's princess
Honoria was feeling really snuggly the other day while I was holding her on my lap. I hugged her and said, "You're my little girl." Feeling like she needed to say something similar back to me, she looked at me and responded, "And you can be my princess!". Then she gave me a big kiss.
Hard to say no to that, I guess.

Yohan the ninja
The kids were playing out in their snow fort and later in the day I asked Dahlia about it. She told me they were pretending to be from Japan. She said "Anthony is Yohan, Joey is Louie, and I am Emily."

I like butter and butter
We were watching some home videos the other night and we all had a good laugh at Dahlia when she was 2. In the video I came into the kitchen and found Dahlia eating butter.
Me: "Dahlia! What are you doing? How much butter did you eat?"
Dahlia: "Five butter."
Who knows how much five butter is, but she didn't hesitate to say it.
